The 14-Day Adventure
From wheels-up in Philadelphia to the Trail's End campfire — here is how your adventure unfolds.
Depart Philadelphia (PHL) → Denver (DEN) & Altitude Arrival
The journey begins! Depart PHL ~6:00 AM, arrive in Denver ~8:30 AM. After a quick stop, we board a private Ramblin' Express coach bus for the scenic ride south to New Mexico. We arrive at Philmont one day early to acclimate to the 6,700 ft Base Camp altitude. Scouts will tour Villa Philmonte, visit museums, hit the Tooth of Time Traders, and sleep in trail tents under the stars.
Ranger Check-In & The Opening Campfire
We officially check in and meet our assigned Philmont Rangers. Medical reviews and strict gear shakedowns ensure everyone is ready. We draw our crew gear (pots, bear ropes, dining flies), learn the ropes, and attend the legendary Opening Campfire to kick off the expedition.
Hitting the Trail & Ranger Training
We step off into the backcountry! For the first 3 days, our Rangers hike with us, teaching Philmont-specific wilderness protocols: bear bag hanging, precise campsite setup, navigation, and Leave No Trace cooking. On the morning of Day 4, the Ranger departs, and the youth leadership officially takes full command of the crew.
The Heart of the Expedition
The core of the trip. Crews execute their chosen routes. Whether it's the grueling ascent of Mt. Baldy for Crew 1, or the historic spar pole climbing and logging camps for Crew 2, these days are filled with massive views, backcountry camaraderie, wildlife sightings, and incredible starry nights.
Trail's End
The final hike into Base Camp. After 10+ days without running water, scouts clean up, return crew gear, and enjoy a massive dinner at the dining hall. The evening culminates in the emotional Trail's End Campfire, where scouts receive their hard-earned official Arrowhead patches.
Wheels Up
Board the coach bus back to Denver for flights home to Philadelphia. Exhausted, proud, and carrying memories that will last a lifetime.
