Philmont Scout Ranch sits in the shadow of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains outside Cimarron, New Mexico — the Boy Scouts of America's flagship high-adventure base. In summer 2028, Merion Liberty Troop is sending two full crews into the backcountry for a 12-day trek across some of the most demanding and rewarding terrain in the BSA's national portfolio.
Activities & Programming
This expedition isn't just about walking. Crews will be hiking across the entirety of the vast ranch, engaging in world-class backcountry programming along the way, including:
- Extensive cross-ranch backpacking
- Fly tying and fishing in clear mountain streams
- Blacksmithing and historical homesteading
- Spar pole climbing and logging camps
- Gold panning and mine tours

Crew 1 — Cross-Ranch Traverse
60–70+ miles spanning the ranch. Ascents of Mt. Baldy, the Tooth of Time, and the Dean Skyline traverse. High intensity, high reward.
